Service For Peace is for everyone who wants to improve themselves and their communities and work for lasting peace. Our service programs deepen cooperation between diverse groups and communities and the world, leading to lasting change.

Vision:

Our vision is a world of peace created by people serving each other every day. To reach this goal, Service for Peace helps conscientious people take on the role of peacemakers. Our programs combine service, learning and a fresh perspective on the problems and solutions we face in building peace.

Service as a learning opportunity.

Service for Peace provides opportunities for experiential learning that foster a transformation towards unselfishness. We view service as an educational vehicle which transforms heart, relationships and culture.

This transformation is cultivated by combining service with dialogue and reflection. The tradition of living for others is expanded when service-practitioners are trained, equipped, and inspired to become service leaders. Service for Peace believes that the tradition of living for others is the cornerstone of world peace.

A society based on serving others.

Concern for others is the central principle of vibrant and peaceful communities. When we are confronted by the compelling needs of others, it is often the case that we find our best, most heroic and sacrificial selves. But caring should go beyond service and charity. Freely offered service for the sake of others should be an approach to life.

Removing the obstacles to peace.

The most fundamental obstacles to peace are internal or spiritual. These obstacles include prejudice, hatred, selfishness and indifference going back through the centuries. Sure, the most obvious and visible obstacles are war, exploitation, economic disparity and so on but if you think about it, they’re all a result of our internal state, our attitudes and beliefs about each other. The way to liberation from selfishness and hatred is found in their polar opposites — in service and love. When we focus on serving others, even historical foes can cooperate in a common cause.
